QLD Protective Behaviours

Protective Behaviours Program for Queensland Early Childhood Services

Children rely on the adults in their lives to ensure that they are valued and loved, respected, and protected from all forms of abuse and neglect. Child safety and wellbeing is a shared responsibility and requires a commitment from all members of the community.

NAPCAN’s Safer Communities for Children protective behaviours approach (SCFC) reinforces the collective role that the early childhood sector, communities and individuals have in keeping children safe, thriving and having the ability to reach their full potential. SCFC aims to build resilience, communication, emotional literacy and help-seeking skills in children.

Research suggests that children who have access to protective behaviours programs are significantly less likely to experience abuse.

Join us as we explore the SCFC materials (along with a host of other resources) which you can adapt and use in your service. Gain an understanding of how this program can fit within a child safeguarding approach across your program. Together, we can work to ensure that every child, in every service, is free from harm, every day.

QLD Protective Behaviours

What will we cover?

  • Gain an understanding of the SCFC program, foundations and associated frameworks, including the principles for abuse prevention and deep listening to children
  • Become familiar with the SCFC resources and how to use them to respond to children in meaningful and supportive ways
  • Implement tools and resources in the program that support the implementation of the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations
  • Understand your role and responsibility to notice recognise, respond and report inappropriate behaviour by adults towards children

Upon completion of the 4 hour workshop and return of the post training survey, you will be provided access to a range of resources to support your child safeguarding practices in your service.

Who should attend?

With thanks to the Queensland Government, this 4 hour workshop is provided free to all regulated LDC, Kindy, FDC and OSHC services who are based in Queensland. This program is aimed at educators and teachers working within a service.

To promote equitable access to this opportunity, there is a limit on the number of registrations per service for each workshop. You may register up to 5 staff members at a time to attend workshops across the duration of this funding (July 2024 – September 2025). If you cannot make it on the day, or your situation changes, please contact us as soon as possible on qldscfc@napcan.org.au so that we can offer your spot to someone on the waiting list.

As Mandatory Reporters working in ECEC, we all have a responsibility to protect children from child abuse and harm. Please note that we will be discussing issues relating to child sexual assault and grooming behaviours and whilst this will be done in a safe environment, we encourage you to consider if this workshop is for you.

If you are experiencing issues registering or have a query regarding this program, please contact qldscfc@napcan.org.au or 02 8073 3300.
