Children benefit when we bring people together to create connected communities.
Neighbourhood centres play a special role in building the types of communities that are best for children … where people are friendly … where children feel safe and valued … and where parents can get the support that they need. A community centre can be like a safe harbour for a family, especially if they are navigating choppy waters.
We can all help to create a safe harbour for families when we:
- Bring families and communities together.
- Welcome a child with a smile or remember their name.
- Listen to children and act on what they say.
- Be a friend to a parent or carer.
- Help parents and carers get the support they need.
- Create fun, child-friendly spaces.
- Speak up when we see inappropriate behaviour towards a child orsomething that isn’t safe.
