Let’s listen to children this Children’s Week and every week!

This week is Children’s Week – a time to focus on the rights of children under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, including the right to have a say on matters that affect them.

We’re pleased to be able to share with you the video ‘CHANGE THE WORLD’, which is a powerful message from young people calling for us to listen to their voices.

The story of the video started back in 2018 when the Bundaberg Child Protection Week Action Group (CPWAG) ran a music workshop for young people with Melinda Wells and Central University of Queensland (with funding from the Regional Arts Development Fund). The results of the workshop were extremely rewarding with several young people writing and recording songs and some even continuing a singing career.

The song by Brie Anderson really struck a chord with the members of the committee who kept the recording of the song in the hope that it could be used in the Child Protection Week campaign at some time. In 2022 Veronica Taylor (Child Protection Week Action Group) from Bundaberg, shared the song with the National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse & Neglect (NAPCAN) who also saw its value.

NAPCAN chose to collaborate with Swarm Studios, due to their commitment to valuing and empowering young people.

The result is a powerful captivating production, with an important message straight from the voices of young people themselves!
