Get involved - Tips for local governments and libraries

National Child Protection Week 3 - 9 September 2023

Get Involved > Ideas for local governments and libraries

National Child Protection Week is a great opportunity for local governments to get involved with the prevention of child abuse and neglect.

We know that local governments are key players in creating the safe harbours that promote child wellbeing and keep children safe.

NAPCAN invites all councils across Australia to support National Child Protection Week this September.

In addition to the promotional suggestions on our Get Involved page, you may like to:

  • Download our or use in your libraries (coming soon). Consider using these as the basis for library activities during the first week of September, or simply have copies available for use by patrons.
  • Invite local councillors to get involved. A great way to get started is by asking their local constituents to use the Children’s Activity Booklet to find out what children think about their local community. Councillors can then take the feedback on board and/or display it in their office.
  • Organise a display in your council building or library to help promote National Child Protection Week.
  • Organise some staff development.
