Shifting the Paradigm Webinar: Protecting and promoting the
rights, safety, and wellbeing of children and young people
at risk of, or experiencing, child sexual exploitation

Jodie’s presentation will:
• Explore the relevance of children’s rights to preventing and responding to child sexual
exploitation
• Summarise the ACT human rights landscape and its relevance to decision-making
• Discuss the tensions articulated by decision-makers in seeking to balance children’s
rights in situations of significant safety risk
• Reflect on the limitations of responses that are not established within an appropriately
contextualised children’s rights framework.

Jodie Griffiths-Cook, ACT Public Advocate and Children and Young People Commissioner

In her role as ACT Public Advocate, Jodie is responsible for
monitoring services for the protection of children and young
people (amongst other things). She actively advocates for improved
responses to child sexual exploitation both locally and nationally, with
a particular focus on improving disruption efforts in respect of adult
perpetrators and minimising responses that limit the rights of children and young people.
