Mudjin Mudung Community Day

Tue September 6, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Together, we can build a future where all of OUR children have the opportunities to grow up safe in their families, strong in their identities, and connected to their cultures.

Over 200 years of dispossession and dislocation – along with today’s outdated systems – means that many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and children have been displaced from accessing their culture.

It is our responsibility as a community to keep our kids safe and decide the best future for them. In Western Sydney, 47% of children and young people in foster care are Aboriginal. Only 23% of these kids are managed by culturally appropriate Aboriginal agencies. We must fight for a future where our kids can grow up safe at home with family.

Our kids need us to do better. Child Protection Week is about educating and engaging our families and communities to help break the cycle which has impacted our people for generations. We know that our children thrive when they live with their own families and communities who have a positive sense of identity and culture.
