Because of inspiration by the Stolen Generation, I have created this artwork; 'Australia's Darkest Chapter'. It aims to convey the inconceivable policies was inflicted against Indigenous Australians, resulting in heartbreak and trauma for generations. To make this emotional artwork, I reflected on many weeks of research, as well as inspiration from survivors of the Kinchela Boys Home – whom I was able to personally meet and hear the stories of. The final artwork was a result of many practice sketches, composition experimentation, technique exploration in addition to hours of drawing, shading, embossing and sketching. Overall, I am highly satisfied with how 'Australia's Darkest Chapter' turned out and it truly portrays the message I wanted it to. Furthermore, I believe my artwork acts as a fundamental conversation starter about Australia's history, the long road of reconciliation and the many people that must come together to heal the victims of Australia's shameful past. It emphasises that every conversation matters, especially in today's cultural landscape.
