QLD Protective Behaviours

Protective Behaviours Program for Early Childhood & OSHC Services Services

Children rely on the adults in their lives to ensure that they are valued and loved, respected, and protected from all forms of abuse and neglect.

This workshop has been designed as a universal approach to protective behaviours for Educators in regulated Early Childhood and OSHC Services.

It uses NAPCAN’s prevention framework and tools to reinforce the collective role that educators have in protecting children and supporting them in their right to be safe, protected and free from harm.  It also equips educators with knowledge, skills and resources to identify, prevent and respond to harm (including grooming behaviours).

Developed as a universal approach to protective behaviours, the workshop has been designed to complement your existing work with compliance, Child Safe Standards, and curriculum, while strengthening your connection with children.

You will learn to:

  • understand Children’s Rights in action
  • strengthen your organisation’s Child Safe Organisations evidence
  • understand your role and responsibility to notice, respond to and report grooming and harmful behaviors
  • deeply listen to children and their experiences of safety
  • expand knowledge in prevention strategies
  • integrate frameworks and resources into your service quality improvement plan (QIP) and planning and assessment cycle.

A trauma-responsive approach

The NAPCAN resources used within the PB Workshop are underpinned by a trauma-responsive framework based on research from ACU that aims to build safe and supportive learning environments for children.

Who should attend?

This 2 hour workshop is recommended for all regulated LDC, Kindy, FDC and OSHC services.

Upon completion of the 2 hour workshop and return of the post training survey, you will be provided access to an electronic kit containing a range of resources to support your child safeguarding practices in your service.

Please note that we will be discussing issues relating to child sexual assault and grooming behaviours and whilst this will be done in a safe environment, we encourage you to consider if this workshop is for you.
