Respectful relationships education: It’s not just up to schools

Fri May 28, 2021 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

Free

In the wake of the petition by former Sydney student Chanel Contos asking for improved consent education – and the 1000s of brave young people who have spoken out about the abuse they have experienced – we are finally seeing a shift in the public discourse around these topics.

Importantly, leaders are starting to echo what many of us have been saying for years: that respectful relationships education is not just about adding lessons to the classroom. If we are to create real sustained change we need to engage the whole community.

In this webinar we will hear from speakers who are using the Love Bites program to engage the broader community in preventing domestic and family violence.

The session will focus on practical examples that can be replicated in other communities, as well as tips for getting started and breaking down the barriers to true community collaboration.

Speakers include:

  • Leesa Waters, NAPCAN, Deputy CEO
  • Keesha Booth, Community Development Officer, Townsville City Council
  • Vicki Dredge, Sergeant, Domestic & Family Violence Coordinator, Capricornia Police District
