Every Conversation Matters | Community Art Project and Puppet Making Workshop

Thu September 5 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Free

To promote and participate in a National Child Protection Week community event, named ‘Every Conversation Matter’s’, this will highlight the prevention of child abuse and neglect in our Great Southern region.

This event will take place on 5th September 2024 at Albany Town Square from 10:00am – 2:00pm.

The theme for National Child Protection Week 2024 is ‘Every conversation matters.’ This event will invite community members to reflect or have discussions about child abuse and neglect.

We welcome community members to engage in the community art project, allowing them to share their thoughts and ideas about this important topic, reflected in a magnificent community art project.

Realising their artistic contributions via this project will provide a safe, private space for self – reflection on this topic or support community members to bravely engage in conversations.

To support this process, conversation starter tips will be shared with community members. Guidance and support will be provided about how to navigate this challenging topic with access to helpful resources from Kids Helpline.

Children will be invited to take part in a fun, craft activity making puppets, which can be used as an educational tool to facilitate conversations between parents and their children, children and their teachers or children with their peers.

Community Living Association (CLA) will invite their participants to facilitate the children’s craft activities whilst also highlighting more broadly, effective strategies and tools to have conversations with people with special needs.

Communities will also be seeking art contributions from school students located in Albany, Denmark, Mt Barker, and Katanning with a colouring – in competition, with winners being announced at the event.

It is hoped through highlighting the importance of having a conversation, this will improve the safety of our children and contribute to the increased sense of empowerment and feelings of courage amongst community members to discuss the prevention of child abuse and neglect.

Together we will create an inclusive, artistic representation of this topic presented by our community for the benefit of our community, emphasizing ‘every conversation matter’s’.
