Reframing parenting to improve child wellbeing

Improving children’s outcomes means supporting parents. We know how much parenting matters. We’re becoming more aware that how we think about and talk about parenting matters too. Research conducted by the Frameworks Institute, commissioned by the Parenting Research Centre, uncovered some deeply held common beliefs about parenting in Australia. It’s provided us with some powerful new strategies that can help us change the conversation, and be heard and understood by a wide audience.

This workshop will explore the science of how we can boost the impact of our communications about parenting. It will support participants to apply these powerful insights in their everyday work.

The workshop will review the research and cover the following:

  • What is framing, and what does it mean for how we tell our stories?
  • How does the public think about parenting, children and families in Australia – and how can we change this?
  • How can we reduce blame and stigma?
  • What are some practical ways to apply these powerful insights in our everyday work?
