WHAT ROLE CAN PARTNERS PLAY?
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1531374129679{margin-top: -20px !important;}”]PARTNERS PLAY THEIR PART TO PROTECT AND CARE FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE IN THEIR COMMUNITY BY BEING GOOD ROLE MODELS WHO TREAT PEOPLE WITH RESPECT.
-Treat your partner with respect and love.
-Be a good listener and be interested in your partner’s life.
-Be aware of your behaviour and take responsibility for it – what you say and how you say it.
-Understand that there are good and hard times.
-Support and encourage your partner.
-Enjoy spending time together and time apart.
-Be a positive role model. Be aware of your behaviour, what you say, how you say it and the way you act. Children and young people learn from the people they spend time with, so make your influence positive!
-Understand that your partner is a parent as well as your partner and that children and young people can be demanding and need a lot of attention.

I have no children of my own but have many children in my life. I enjoy the time I spend with my partner’s extended family, as well as my nieces and nephews. I like to joke around and behave like a goofy kid with them but I am always sure to remind myself what a big responsibility I have to be a positive and caring role model as well as to be honest and listen to what their views are. I sometimes think that children are underestimated in their ability to really understand the world around them and I have better talks with them than I do some of my own friends. I remember the adults that spoke to me when I was little and didn’t make me feel like a silly baby.[/stm_icon_box][stm_icon_box icon=”stmicon-bon-quote” icon_width=”75″ min_height=”220″ style=”style_14″ title=”LUKE TAYLOR” css=”.vc_custom_1531374222414{margin-top: 20px !important;margin-bottom: 20px !important;}”]WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO “PLAY YOUR PART” TO PROTECT AND CARE FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE IN THEIR COMMUNITY:
My girlfriend and I have been together for a year now. It is pretty tough with being in high school and having a rather serious relationship. Balancing life around school work, time for your girlfriend, time for your mates, but also time to surf can be difficult, but my girlfriend and I try to support each other as best as we can. She has two younger brothers so in front of them I don’t swear or talk badly about other people.[/stm_icon_box][stm_icon_box icon=”stmicon-bon-quote” icon_width=”75″ min_height=”220″ style=”style_14″ title=”SARAH BROOKE” css=”.vc_custom_1531374244285{margin-top: 20px !important;margin-bottom: 20px !important;}”]WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO “PLAY YOUR PART” TO PROTECT AND CARE FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE IN THEIR COMMUNITY:
My partner works with youth and supports other youth workers to do this work as well. We talk about reporting obligations, but we also talk about the ways that youth workers can provide support to young people, by letting them tell their story and being a person who always treats them with respect.
My partner works in a remote area. I try to support him doing a great job. I try to offer him love and encouragement and remind him how important his job is in improving the futures of young people. Sometimes this is by giving him a massage while saying how proud of him I am; sometimes this is allowing him to talk through a bad day or to tell me all the details of a success story. I hope that by supporting him I make him stronger so he can keep doing his job well.[/stm_icon_box][stm_icon_box icon=”stmicon-bon-quote” icon_width=”75″ min_height=”220″ style=”style_14″ title=”LAURA JAMES” css=”.vc_custom_1531374262250{margin-top: 20px !important;margin-bottom: 20px !important;}”]WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO “PLAY YOUR PART” TO PROTECT AND CARE FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE IN THEIR COMMUNITY:
My partner of three years has two children from a previous relationship; a five year-old-boy and a seven year-old-girl. He sees them every week and also has them stay at our place every second weekend. I enjoy these times very much and try to make them both feel at home as much as possible, without trying to act as though I am replacing their mum. I try to be more an adult friend to them, listening to their stories about friends and giving advice on the small problems.
For my partner I try to support him as much as possible. I know it is hard for him not seeing his own kids every day, but by showing him how much I love and support them as part of our family, I encourage him and show him that any possible speed bump in life will work out. We also plan on having children of our own and have discussed the possibility of future siblings with his children to make them familiar with the potential additional family members.[/stm_icon_box][stm_button button_pos=”left” button_icon_pos=”left” button_icon=”stmicon-portfolio_prev” button_icon_size=”20″ link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.napcan.org.au%2Fget-involved-friends-family%2F|title:Back%20to%20Get%20Involved%20-%20Friends%2FFamily||”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
