SUMMARY:Shifting Conversations into Action: Insights from the Shellharbour Communities for Children Community Consultation
DESCRIPTION:Aligned with National Child Protection Week’s 2026 theme of shifting conversations into meaningful action\, this webinar will present key findings from the consultation and explore how insights from children\, families and local stakeholders can inform community-based approaches that safeguard children and strengthen belonging. \nThis webinar invites participants to be part of an important conversation about creating safer\, more connected communities where children and families can thrive. While conversations can spark new ideas and encourage reflection\, meaningful change happens when those discussions lead to practical action. National Child Protection Week provides an opportunity to focus on how communities can work together to strengthen support systems\, prevent harm and promote the safety\, wellbeing and belonging of all children. \n  \nThe Shellharbour Communities for Children Community Consultation Report was developed in partnership with the University of Wollongong’s Early Start team following a mixed-methods consultation conducted across the Shellharbour Local Government Area in late 2025. The consultation gathered perspectives from parents\, carers\, children\, young people\, Aboriginal community members\, service providers\, practitioners and other local stakeholders to better understand community strengths\, challenges and priorities. \nThe findings highlight the important role communities play in shaping children’s experiences. The report recognises that children grow and develop within interconnected family and community systems\, and that strong\, inclusive and connected communities provide a vital foundation of care\, protection and belonging. \nBy attending this webinar\, you will: \n\nHear key findings and recommendations from the consultation report.\nLearn about the priorities identified by local children\, families and community members.\nExplore opportunities for collective action to strengthen child safety\, wellbeing and belonging.\nConsider how the findings can inform local planning\, services\, partnerships and community initiatives.\n\nTogether\, we can move beyond discussion and towards practical\, community-led action that helps all children feel safe\, supported and connected. \nPlease note: This webinar will be recorded and made available to all registered attendees following the event.
