SUMMARY:What does a community need for every child to thrive?
DESCRIPTION:What does a community need for every child to thrive?  Learn about some of the unexpected factors that shape how kids do in life.\nTo treat all of Australia’s children fairly\, we need to make sure every family and community has what kids need to thrive and be healthy. \nNot every child or community has what they need. And not everyone thinks about children’s wellbeing as a responsibility for communities and society\, not just families. \nOur understanding of what children need to thrive is constantly adapting as our world changes around us. As we gain knowledge\, we see the connections and the responsibilities that we all have\, to make sure our young people can live well and achieve their potential. \nIn this webinar we’ll venture into fresh discussions about how we think about child protection to discuss: \n\nWhat children and young people need to thrive – in the evidence and in their own voices\nHow using ARACY’s wellbeing framework The Nest can help us see the bigger picture\nWhy we need to pay attention to public attitudes and systemic structures if we want to improve outcomes for children\nHow children are affected by often overlooked factors such as access to stable housing or other supports in their neighbourhoods\n\nA panel of experts will introduce us to some of the unexpected roles that different parts of society play in boosting child wellbeing. And leave us with thoughts on how we can all support and share responsibility for all children in Australia. \nSpeakers:\nLeanne McLean\, Tasmania’s Commissioner for Children and Young People\nPenny Dakin\, CEO\, ARACY\nSister Brigid Arthur\, Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project\nKate Colvin\, Everybody’s Home Campaign

SUMMARY:Australia's Biggest Child Safety Lesson
DESCRIPTION:Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson (ABCSL) is a free livestreamed event that engages children across the country in vital personal safety education. In National Child Protection Week\, the Daniel Morcombe Foundation will livestream two brand new video safety lessons to children around the country. \nPreventing child sexual abuse is everybody’s responsibility. Teaching children that they have the right to be safe\, that they are allowed to say no to anything or anyone that makes them uncomfortable\, and that there are adults who will help them has the power to prevent harm. These messages also empower children who are experiencing abuse to tell someone who can help. \nIn fact\, help-seeking is the theme of Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson for both 4-7-year-olds and 8-12-year-olds this year. In these age-appropriate\, engaging\, and positive lessons\, children will learn skills and strategies to seek help if they ever feel unsafe. The lessons reframe accessing support as a truly heroic and courageous act. \nAustralia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson for early years and junior primary students (4-7 years old) will go live at 9am AEST on Tuesday 7 September (approx 10 mins long). This is followed by a new resource for upper primary students (8-12 years old) at 10am AEST (approx 25 mins long). \nABCSL makes teaching personal safety easy with accompanying lesson plans and resources. Register now to be part of this important child safety event at https://danielmorcombe.com.au/australias-biggest-child-safety-lesson-2/ . \n  \nWhat: Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson for Early Childhood and Junior Primary \nWhen: 9am AEST for 4-7-year-olds\, 10am AEST for 8-12-year-olds\, Tuesday 7 September \nHow: Visit https://danielmorcombe.com.au/australias-biggest-child-safety-lesson-2/ to register your school or early learning centre and find more information.

SUMMARY:Run Against Violence - Virtual Challenge
DESCRIPTION:NAPCAN is excited to be partnering with Run Against Violence to help ensure that every young person in Australia has the opportunity to learn about what a respectful relationship looks like for them. \nThe 2021 Run Against Violence (RAV) Virtual Challenge is aiming to raise $90\,000 for our Love Bites program to fund facilitator training in remote\, regional and metropolitan communities throughout Australia! \nWhen is it?\nThe challenge starts anytime Monday 30 August 2021 and finishes midnight Friday 17 September 2021 so can be completed as part of National Child Protection Week! \nDo I have to RUN?\nNo! Within your team you can choose to walk the distance if you prefer. If you use a wheelchair you can roll the distance. It’s up to you and your team to support each other. \nHow far will I need to walk/run each day?\nYou and your teammates will support each other to complete 1300 kms over the 19 days of the Virtual Challenge. You can split this up within your team however you like\, with some doing more and some less. Teams can have up to 20 people which means you only have to walk or run 3 – 4 km per day. The more people you have in your team\, the less distance each team member needs to travel! \nWhat if I’m an individual looking for a team?\nNo problem. When you go through registration add yourself to the team “Find me a team”\, pay for your entry and the lovely people at RAV will take care of you from there. \nDo I have to fundraise?\nNo! (But you can if you like). The Challenge is as simple as paying your registration fee and you’re good to go! \nLet’s help make the RAV Virtual Challenge the BIGGEST running event in Australia so we can help prevent relationship violence and sexual assault in our communities. More info here. \nGet a group of friends or colleagues together or even encourage your students to set up a team themselves!

SUMMARY:Australia's Biggest Child Safety Lesson
DESCRIPTION:Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson (ABCSL) is an annual initiative of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation which provides a ready-made evidence-based personal safety lesson. The content\, which is is broadcast online for free\, is age-appropriate\, gentle and empowering. In 2020\, the Daniel Morcombe Foundation is producing two iterations of ABCSL. The first\, for children aged 8-12 has been broadcast to a record number of schools. The second edition\, going live during National Child Protection Week\, is designed for children aged 4-7. It unpacks secrets and surprises and reinforces key personal safety messages for early childhood and junior primary aged children. \nThis involves learning about feelings\, body parts and the rules about touch. It’s about explicitly reinforcing things that we can take for granted or think are unspoken: that children have the right to be safe all the time\, that they can talk about anything that is making them feel sad or worried\, that they won’t get in trouble if they tell a secret that someone has asked them to keep. \nThis edition of ABCSL focuses on secrets and surprises. On Thursday 10 September\, during National Child Protection Week\, thousands of primary schools and early childhood centres around Australia will join the free online broadcast. Parents/carers can also register to view ABCSL at home. \nRegistered participants will have access to an exclusive preview of the lesson. \nThe Daniel Morcombe Foundation has also created educational resources to accompany ABCSL which makes teaching personal safety easy. Visit https://danielmorcombe.com.au/australias-biggest-child-safety-lesson-2/ to download the Educator Guide and Extension Activities\, Parent/Carer Guide and the Lesson Synopsis.
