SUMMARY:ChildSafe 15 Year Birthday fundraising breakfast
DESCRIPTION:ChildSafe 15 Year Celebration Fundraising Breakfast:\nWe are so excited this year for our ChildSafe Fundraising Breakfast as it is also celebrating our 15 year birthday. \nDetails: \nFriday\, Sept 10th\, 2021 6.45 am – 9 am with complimentary FREE parking at Leonda By the Yarra. \nThis year’s focus will be on Body Safety and Consent. This is a huge topic in the media at the moment and it’s important we weigh into the conversation. The media are focused on Consent being taught in schools at year 10 but we believe it is way too late. We must be empowering children as young as pre-school so they know that they have a voice and are able to speak up if they don’t feel safe. \nWhere will the money go?\nAll money raised will go towards helping organisations to be able to access the ChildSafe face-to-face or webinar style Body Safety and Consent Training and resources (valued at $980) for FREE. Also developing indigenous resources on Body Safety and Consent. \nWho will be speaking at the event:\nIntroducing Corey Phillpott. Corey is the Worlds Strongest Marathon World Record Holder after pulling a 1.5tonne Ford Ranger Ute 42.2km in 16 hours\, 22 minutes and 23 seconds. This wasn’t just for fun\, he did it to raise awareness for the prevention of child abuse after his wife revealed she had experienced sexual abuse as a child. He raised over $30\,000 for ChildSafe in the process and gathered 1000’s of followers in the process. His story is so inspiring and we are so grateful for him giving his time for this event. \nWe will also have a panel of guests including:\nJayneen Sanders – Body Safety and Consent Education expert\, Child Safety Educator and principal \nOur MC will be Bruce Argyle (head of Bendigo Bank NFP arm). \nWhat does the $90 p/h get you:\nFREE Parking \nPastries\nTea and coffee\nCooked Breakfast \nCan I bring my friends?\nYes\, you can. We are accepting tables of 8 or you can come as an individual and we will place you on a table. \nWhat do I wear?\nNeat casual\, please

SUMMARY:How can we ensure children and young people with disability receive a fair go?
DESCRIPTION:Children and young people with disability are more likely to experience abuse and are significantly overrepresented in the child protection system due to increased risk. This increased risk is not about the disability itself but rather is due to the things that children and young people with disability commonly experience like; having more reliance on others for care and support\, being socially isolated\, lacking a trusted adult or way to communicate with someone who can help\, or lacking the right support to fully participate in society. \nSo\, how do we build our communities so that children and young people with disability thrive? How can we empower children and young people with disability to exercise their rights and ensure their full participation and inclusion? How can we better listen to the voices of children and young people with disability? How do community attitudes towards children and young people with disability impact on safety and wellbeing? \nJoin us to hear from an exciting lineup of expert speakers who can lead us through the evidence and lived experiences of children and young people with disability and answer your questions. \nSpeakers:\nHelen Connolly\, South Australia’s Commissioner for Children and Young People\nMary Sayers\, CEO\, Children and Young People with Disability Australia (CYDA)\nProfessor Sally Robinson\, Professor in Disability and Community Inclusion\, Flinders University\nYoung person with a lived experience of disability (TBC)

SUMMARY:Proud in Culture\, Strong in Spirit
DESCRIPTION:Proud in Culture\, Strong in Spirit\nThis year’s theme for National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day was Proud in Culture\, Strong in Spirit. As with all Australian children\, it is important for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children to be able to maintain strong connections to their family\, community\, culture and Country. \nToo often though\, child protection systems seemingly lack the understanding of\, or deprioritise\, cultural connection. This can have negative consequences for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in out-of-home care. \nThis webinar will explore how children thrive in systems that recognise the strengths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. \nTogether\, we can build a future where all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children have the opportunities to grow up safe in their families\, strong in their identities\, and connected to their cultures. \nThe discussion will include: \n\nWhat Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people telling us about culture\nWhat does a child’s connection to their culture and Country mean?\nHow does cultural connection support an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child’s wellbeing\, safety and identity?\nWhy Aboriginal community-controlled organisations are the most well-placed to ensure the best outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.\n\nSpeakers:\nApril Lawrie\, Commissioner for Aboriginal Children and Young People SA\nCatherine Liddle\, CEO\, SNAICC\nBelinda Field\, Yerin Eleanor Duncan Aboriginal Health Services

SUMMARY:What does a community need for every child to thrive?
DESCRIPTION:What does a community need for every child to thrive?  Learn about some of the unexpected factors that shape how kids do in life.\nTo treat all of Australia’s children fairly\, we need to make sure every family and community has what kids need to thrive and be healthy. \nNot every child or community has what they need. And not everyone thinks about children’s wellbeing as a responsibility for communities and society\, not just families. \nOur understanding of what children need to thrive is constantly adapting as our world changes around us. As we gain knowledge\, we see the connections and the responsibilities that we all have\, to make sure our young people can live well and achieve their potential. \nIn this webinar we’ll venture into fresh discussions about how we think about child protection to discuss: \n\nWhat children and young people need to thrive – in the evidence and in their own voices\nHow using ARACY’s wellbeing framework The Nest can help us see the bigger picture\nWhy we need to pay attention to public attitudes and systemic structures if we want to improve outcomes for children\nHow children are affected by often overlooked factors such as access to stable housing or other supports in their neighbourhoods\n\nA panel of experts will introduce us to some of the unexpected roles that different parts of society play in boosting child wellbeing. And leave us with thoughts on how we can all support and share responsibility for all children in Australia. \nSpeakers:\nLeanne McLean\, Tasmania’s Commissioner for Children and Young People\nPenny Dakin\, CEO\, ARACY\nSister Brigid Arthur\, Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project\nKate Colvin\, Everybody’s Home Campaign

SUMMARY:Australia's Biggest Child Safety Lesson
DESCRIPTION:Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson (ABCSL) is a free livestreamed event that engages children across the country in vital personal safety education. In National Child Protection Week\, the Daniel Morcombe Foundation will livestream two brand new video safety lessons to children around the country. \nPreventing child sexual abuse is everybody’s responsibility. Teaching children that they have the right to be safe\, that they are allowed to say no to anything or anyone that makes them uncomfortable\, and that there are adults who will help them has the power to prevent harm. These messages also empower children who are experiencing abuse to tell someone who can help. \nIn fact\, help-seeking is the theme of Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson for both 4-7-year-olds and 8-12-year-olds this year. In these age-appropriate\, engaging\, and positive lessons\, children will learn skills and strategies to seek help if they ever feel unsafe. The lessons reframe accessing support as a truly heroic and courageous act. \nAustralia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson for early years and junior primary students (4-7 years old) will go live at 9am AEST on Tuesday 7 September (approx 10 mins long). This is followed by a new resource for upper primary students (8-12 years old) at 10am AEST (approx 25 mins long). \nABCSL makes teaching personal safety easy with accompanying lesson plans and resources. Register now to be part of this important child safety event at https://danielmorcombe.com.au/australias-biggest-child-safety-lesson-2/ . \n  \nWhat: Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson for Early Childhood and Junior Primary \nWhen: 9am AEST for 4-7-year-olds\, 10am AEST for 8-12-year-olds\, Tuesday 7 September \nHow: Visit https://danielmorcombe.com.au/australias-biggest-child-safety-lesson-2/ to register your school or early learning centre and find more information.

SUMMARY:Run Against Violence - Virtual Challenge
DESCRIPTION:NAPCAN is excited to be partnering with Run Against Violence to help ensure that every young person in Australia has the opportunity to learn about what a respectful relationship looks like for them. \nThe 2021 Run Against Violence (RAV) Virtual Challenge is aiming to raise $90\,000 for our Love Bites program to fund facilitator training in remote\, regional and metropolitan communities throughout Australia! \nWhen is it?\nThe challenge starts anytime Monday 30 August 2021 and finishes midnight Friday 17 September 2021 so can be completed as part of National Child Protection Week! \nDo I have to RUN?\nNo! Within your team you can choose to walk the distance if you prefer. If you use a wheelchair you can roll the distance. It’s up to you and your team to support each other. \nHow far will I need to walk/run each day?\nYou and your teammates will support each other to complete 1300 kms over the 19 days of the Virtual Challenge. You can split this up within your team however you like\, with some doing more and some less. Teams can have up to 20 people which means you only have to walk or run 3 – 4 km per day. The more people you have in your team\, the less distance each team member needs to travel! \nWhat if I’m an individual looking for a team?\nNo problem. When you go through registration add yourself to the team “Find me a team”\, pay for your entry and the lovely people at RAV will take care of you from there. \nDo I have to fundraise?\nNo! (But you can if you like). The Challenge is as simple as paying your registration fee and you’re good to go! \nLet’s help make the RAV Virtual Challenge the BIGGEST running event in Australia so we can help prevent relationship violence and sexual assault in our communities. More info here. \nGet a group of friends or colleagues together or even encourage your students to set up a team themselves!
