Inspired by the Child Friendly Challenges launched by NAPCAN in 2005 several local communities around Australia decided they wanted to keep preventing child abuse on their agenda all year round. Some of these have developed into child friendly Community Action Networks. Since their development, local Child Friendly Community Action Networks have:
- Organised whole of community events involving children, families, police, firemen, businesses and service providers.
- Developed and distributed local prevention tools containing information on child abuse and neglect and contact details for all government and non-government service providers in their region.
- Established relationships and partnerships with other organisations in the sector
Organised National Child protection Week activities particularly suited to the local region.
With the launch of Child Friendly Australia, NAPCAN has initiated proactive support of these networks, and is developing a program to inspire and support communities Australia wide to follow suit. Whilst residing under the umbrella of the Child Friendly Australia branding, each of these local networks are part of the NAPCAN national network.
