NAPCAN MicroGrants

The lives of refugee children and their parents held in immigration detention in Darwin are being changed for the better by a project launched last year with a $2000 NAPCAN microgrant.

NAPCAN MicroGrants

The project, to provide fun excursions for families of young children in detention, is the result of a unique collaboration between Charles Darwin University (CDU), the detention centre operators, Serco, and the Department of Immigration.

The NAPCAN microgrant funded a series of day trips for the children and families, many of whom have experienced trauma, loss and grief in their lives. Fun, natural environments chosen for the excursions included the Leanyer Water Park, Casuarina Beach and the Botanic Gardens Children’s Park.
