NAPCAN Vic and Westpac announce the winner of the 2007 Families Investing Time Together Child Friendly Community Award. Women Initiating Self Help External Support (WISHES). Since 2004 this program has been assisting women with post natal depression who struggled with intimacy and play and emotionally connecting with their children. Ms Hopkins works closely with each mother and child during the ten sessions aiming to enhance attachment. MORE
Victoria is again working towards NAPCAN's vision of a Child Friendly Australia. There were twenty-six nominations for NAPCAN Vic's Child Friendly Community Awards for 2007. Sixteen were chosen as outstanding Child Friendly Communities and were acknowledged by Minister Neville at Creative Outrageous Day on October 24.
Three municipalities are doing exceptional work in including children as active citizens in making decisions that affect their lives. City of Port Phillip led the way in 2006 being the first municipality to receive a NAPCAN Child Friendly Community Award. The City of Port Phillip has co hosted the 2007 launch of the Child Friendly Community challenge and is co hosting the Creative Outrageous Day. The City of Port Phillip is also a NAPCAN National Child Protection Week partner.
Other 2007 Child Friendly Community winners include 3 exceptional schools who are supporting Victoria's most disadvantaged students by working with the community to enrich and skill their students. Other community groups and programs such as the Ardeer Community Playground committee, playgroups and a children's centre have all proven themselves to be worthy recipients of NAPCAN Vic CFC awards for 2007.
