National Child Protection Week (NCPW) is only weeks away, and we're planning to make 2008 bigger and better than ever. We'll be launching the event at the beginning of the week with NAPCAN SA associates and supporters invited.
We will again be at the Royal Adelaide Show this year and improve what was already a great stall. In 2007 we were successful in winning First Prize for the Best Community Organisation Site. For 2008, we need many volunteers for the show; if you have the time and the enthusiasm, please contact us now!
Children's Champion Awards 2008
This year NAPCAN SA associates were invited to nominate an individual or community group who has demonstrated that they value children and share our vision of building a Child Friendly Australia! There are 6 Children's Champion Awards which will be awarded at the launch of NCPW 2008.
NAPCAN SA Inc aims to improve the quality of life of all children. In the Southern suburbs of Christies Downs and Hackham West we are working to build a Child Friendly Community. Local service providers and individuals from the community will be working together to build an environment where Children have the opportunity to grow up to be their best and feel safe.
NAPCAN will support them to link in with community programs, services, and people, with the outcome of creating a Child Friendly Community, which will ultimately reduce abuse and neglect.
This program cannot succeed without the help of local groups and volunteers. If you want to play a part in keeping kids safe, even if only for a few hours email us now for more information or to register your interest. This program started in early 2008 but will be continuing on throughout 2008 with the goal of sustaining for a lifetime.
In mid 2008, we will be holding a community planning day to ask children, young people and parents how they would like to see their community be one they can be proud of!
Do you have the desire to MAKE A DIFFERENCE to children in your own neighbourhood? Do you wish to help make Child Friendly Communities? NAPCAN in SA invites you to get involved and help us in our daily work!
NAPCAN SA relies on volunteers to assist with a wide range of tasks some of which include:
Fundraising;
- Holding stalls;
- Public speaking;
- Data entry;
- Mailouts;
- Boards and Committees;
- General office administration; and
- Research
If you have some spare time and a desirer to spend it making a difference please call us on 08 8232 6430 or email us HERE and help us build a Child Friendly Australia.
Below is Mignon & Peter Burgess along with student Catherin from SA Advocacy who supported NAPCAN at the Empower National Youth Week Expo 2008 at Alberton Oval on Thursday, 10 April 2008. The day was filled with fun for young people by young people, full of entertainment, activities, competitions and gave them an opportunity to meet local youth service providers and community groups.

Our greatest need to continue building a Child Friendly Australia are funds. In 2008 we hope to form a fundraising committee with a number of volunteers who dedicate their time to fundraising funds for our South Australia office. This could be by running a local BBQ fundraiser at the local supermarket, or as great as applying for grants. The team will work together either in the office or in the comfort of your own home to help keep our South Australia office going. To hear more about this new team or to register, please contact us by phone or email.
